Over the years, somatic grounding practices have played a huge role in my healing and self care. Grounding myself in the present moment regulates my nervous system and calms my mind.
For me, grounding my feet into the dirt connects me to the present. I can smell the sweetness of my lavender, hear the sounds of nature, feel the texture of the soil on my toes, see the bees pollinating my zinnias, and taste the sweetness of the bakery up the street.
My body feels at rest and I can breathe easily. These are the moments I revel in. These are the moments where I can think a little more clearly about where I’m headed and all that I’ve brought myself through.
Here is a poem that replicates some of these experiences.
.:Thank you for taking the time to listen to my heart:.

Hands in the dirt Holds sacred moments Earth grounds the nerves And safety feels firm Feet in the dirt Releasing shame And bidding farewell To conditional ships. Let them sail away For the wind to claim Swirling sounds And echoes fading Of dimmer days Hazel eyes Guided by the morning horizon. A deep love within Has its uprising Rooted Steady in soil, Rising in My own light.
